Doing Research
in Tidewater Consortium Libraries

This instruction tool is intended for students at any of the colleges and universities belonging to the Virginia Tidewater Consortium for Higher Education. While it focuses on resources available through the Internet, it presents a flexible search strategy that should apply to using print resources as well. Once a Consortium student is familiar with the research process, any Consortium library is a potential resource.

The resources vary among the Consortium institutions, and so do the policies for library use. Knowing the policies, hours, and services of Consortium libraries before visiting them is important.

Important Note: Use your own library first. If you choose to go to another library, stop at your own Circulation desk to obtain a Consortium Borrower's Card for use at any of the Consortium libraries.

This guide to doing research is based upon Cynthia Swaine's "Start Your Research Here!" (ODU Library).
